Negros Occidental to benefit from ARCP2
Negros Occidental is one of the eighteen provinces in the country that will benefit under the Agrarian Reform Communities Project II (ARCP2) said the Department of Agrarian Reform 6 (DAR 6).
Initiated by the DAR and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), ARCP2 will be implemented within the next five years in 152 Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) of the 18 provinces where “there is higher rural poverty incidence.”
DAR 6 in its press report said that close to P10-billion worth of mostly basic rural infrastructure are up for implementation under the ARCP 2 which nearly doubled the cost of P5.8 billion ARCP1 that expired in 2007.
Aside from Negros Occidental, the other provinces in the Visayas region where the ARCP2 will be implemented include Eastern Samar, Western Samar, Northern Samar and Leyte.
In Luzon, the project will be implemented in Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Sorsogon, Romblon and Marinduque while in Mindanao in Zamboanga del Sur, Norte and Sibugay Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and Sulu.
DAR Undersecretary Narciso Nieto and ADB representative Dr. Manoshi Mitra attended the project launching which was held in Iloilo City last May 14 said the DAR 6.
Meanwhile, a Malacañang report said that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and a group of Bishops are set to meet today, May 18, 2009 in Malacanang on the extension of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).
In her 2008 State of the Nation Address, President Arroyo said that the extension of the CARP with reforms is one of her administration’s top priorities. (PIA)
